Presidential Messages

Barbara’s Presidential Report begins with a heartfelt declaration:

"JOINING ROTARY, SURE CHANGED MY LIFE."

This sentiment encapsulates her transformative journey since becoming part of this esteemed organization. With over three decades of experience running her family’s creative retail sign writing and screen printing business, which she sold in 2011, Barbara was searching for an avenue to channel her extensive business skills into meaningful community service.
A pivotal conversation with a friend sparked the idea to join Rotary, prompting Barbara to explore local clubs online until she discovered one right in her hometown of Hunters Hill. Intrigued by the prospect of giving back to the community that had been her home for over 43 years, she attended her first meeting—where only eight members gathered—and was immediately captivated by Rotary's mission, particularly the initiative aimed at polio eradication. This passionate engagement led to remarkable growth within their club; it now boasts a vibrant membership of 23 diverse Rotarians who each bring unique professional expertise and lively personalities to enrich their collective efforts in service and fellowship.

Our community should be aware and be very proud of their local Rotary Club, as it serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration in our area. I can’t speak highly enough about the invaluable service of mentoring; good role models are always needed, especially for our youth who are navigating the complexities of growing up. Each one of us has something worthwhile to share and pass on to the younger generation, making it essential that we step up to guide them. I believe Rotarians can be excellent role models through their commitment to community service and leadership development. With wonderful youth leadership programs like Interact and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), alongside initiatives that recognise outstanding young achievers, these efforts have inspired me to actively seek out opportunities for our club to become a strong influencer for local youth development. The magic of Rotary lies in its ability to unite people around common goals—together we can create positive change while fostering lifelong friendships within our ranks. As we embark on this journey, my optimism is fueled by our collective endeavours aimed at increasing the impact of Rotary within our community. I eagerly anticipate more fellowship moments with fellow members as well as engaging activities; after all, we not only work hard but also have fun through fabulous fundraisers designed to support these initiatives—so watch this space!
